The QR code (Quick Response Code) is a two-dimensional barcode, developed in 1994 by Masahiro Hara from the Japanese company DENSO WAVE. Compared to traditional one-dimensional barcodes, QR codes can encode information both horizontally and vertically, allowing them to store approximately 7,000 numbers or about 3,000 Chinese characters.
QR codes feature position detection patterns in their three corners, enabling scanners to correctly recognize the code and increase reading speed more than tenfold compared to other barcodes.
Additionally, QR codes have an error correction capability of 7% to 30%, meaning they can be read even if partially damaged. This feature also allows for embedding images like logos within the QR code.
